Wedding update Wednesday

Hello!  Welcome to the second and, most likely, last Wedding update Wednesday.

The dress fitting last week went amazingly well, with only one return visit needed.  Now the only dress I need to worry about getting altered is Elizabeth’s because she’s not arriving until next Tuesday.  Fingers crossed we’ll find someone who can alter the dress on short notice.

The hair and makeup trials went very well also.  Laura, Kate & I all got our hair done and, I have to say, we are going to look fantastic.  Alexis is very good at makeup, as well, and made us look like ourselves only moreso.  It’s going to be awesome.

The morning of the wedding is going to be a bit chaotic but we will all get over it.  9am start?  OK!  Champagne with breakfast?  OK!  8 or 9 ladies all getting ready in the same space?  Excellent!!  Honestly, though, I would not have it any other way.

The meeting with Gail on Friday at the reception venue was short and sweet.  No changes needed to be made save a small one to the seating arrangements.  We’ve got all our times sorted out for the day, too, which will make it a lot easier.  Gail is getting married on the 25th as well so won’t be there on the day, but hopefully she’s placed us in good hands!!

S & I have had a rough time of it the past few days narrowing down our music choices.  We’ve finally cracked it, though, and I am very relieved about that!! The three most important songs* are finalized and the ambiance music is as well.  It is not very often you get to choose every song that is going to be played on a venue’s PA System for two whole hours.  It is a great responsibility and we have not taken it lightly.  I hope people both pay attention to and enjoy our choices because it has been a long time coming.

Other than that there is not much to report.  I am getting very excited now about everyone coming to visit.

My brother gets in on Sunday but he’s staying in Edinburgh for a few days as a guest lecturer at Edinburgh University. (oh-ah!)

Alison gets in on Monday and is coming to stay at my house with me on Monday night!  About which I am very excited!!!

My Dad and his wife are coming in Tuesday afternoon, as is Elizabeth.

Mom, Ms Anne and Judy & Dave are coming in on Wednesday.  Linda is also coming Wednesday as well.

Then it is Wedding Overload in the last of the few days before the event.

Panic required.

(*The large part of me which is still angry with KS is pleased with our song choices on a different level entirely; because I know she would be so very jealous.  Petty and childish, I know, but so satisfying…)

(And can I also take this moment to mention two people who can’t make it over for the wedding and how much I wish they could and how much I am going to miss them?  Sarah, yes I mean you.  Also my niece Natalie who is getting so big and, more than anyone else, I wish I lived closer to her…)

Oh, Monday.

It is Monday.  I hate Mondays.  Especially this one.

I don’t have a reason to hate this particular Monday any more than all of the others, but for some reason I feel as though I should.

The weekend was a waste, and that is putting it mildly.

We were painting the master bedroom this weekend.  And we are kind of in a hurry as we’ve only a week left until folks start arriving to stay for the wedding.  We are living out of the spare room at the moment and our bed is in the garage.  Not much room for people to sleep if we are in their room.  Unless they want to sleep in the garage.  Which is cold.  And full of spiders (see previous post).

So we’re in a hurry.  We chose a color and slapped some paint on the walls.  Most of it was finished on Friday evening since S was home.  Saturday afternoon I did a second coat of the edges which left only the second coat of roller paint on the main body of the walls.  Except I ran out of paint.  So off to B&Q with the empty can in hand so I can get paint from the same batch.  No small jars left so it cost £20 even though I did not need 2.5 litres.  Brought the paint home and rolled the second coat on the walls.

Different color.  Same batch number, according to the adolescent employee of B&Q, but different colors.  I gave up and went to bed.  S was out on his stag night*.

Trying to make the best of a bad situation, I decided to simply go over the edges again with the new batch of paint.  Up at 5:30 Sunday morning and in painting by 7:00.  Why?  Because I am insane.  So, I did a third coat of the edges with the new can of paint.

Different colors.  Noticeably different all over the room.  Like a patchwork quilt of Crown Fashion for Walls in Boutique. All gorgeous shades of the same basic color, but not all the same color.

I gave up.  When S woke around 11:30 I made him come to B&Q with me with the empty and half-empty cans of paint.  The woman was not very helpful.  She pointed out that they were different batches and, even though I explained to her that I’d asked a  member of her staff to help me the day before when buying the paint and had been assured it was the same batch, she still gave us a hard time about it before finally giving us a full can of the same batch number of paint.

So now there are two and three coats of paint on the walls of our bedroom and we still have to go over it all again so we can hopefully get it all to be the same exact shade of Boutique.

S told me to take the evening off yesterday.  So I did.  I was on the couch in my PJs with Abigail & Madeline shortly after he left for work.  Watching episodes of Ghost Whisperer in preparation of Scary Movie Season and Hallowe’en.  Watched too many episodes and was up half the night.

Tonight is dinner with L and then home to paint.  Again.  For crying out loud!!

 * Yes, S was on his stag night. Yes, he had a good time.  No, I did not enjoy it.  I woke at 5:30 and he was not in bed.  Cue panic.  From the time it took me to get from the spare room down to where he was asleep on the couch I had run through every possibility in my mind.  From hospitalized to passed out on the street to in jail and, my favorite, shacked up somewhere with the stripper.  But, thankfully, he was safe and sound and sleeping on the couch with the TV turned on. But I was too shaken to go back to bed.  Hence the painting at 7:00am.

Wedding update Wednesday…

I would have loved to have started this blog back in April just after proposal, but I did not have the time or the presence of mind.

So, as it stands, I have initiated Wedding update Wednesday exactly three Wednesdays before the wedding.  Not the best move, but hey ho.

On Monday we met with Gillian and Graham from Icon Photography who are amazing.  Meeting with them to go over details really made it hit home that there is just over two weeks until the wedding.  They are a wonderful couple and I feel blessed to have found them to do our photos for us.  Please go check out their site, they have some wonderful work on display there.

Tonight is my first dress fitting.  I am hoping it only needs to be shortened.  Still, with all the detail at the bottom of the dress I know it is going to take a while.  They said it would have to be hand sewn.  Good.  That means I am getting my £180 worth for the alterations.

Tomorrow night is our hair and make-up trials with Alexis Miller.  She’s lovely and I know she will do what is best for me even if it is not what I originally had in mind.

Friday is our final meeting with the people at the reception venue.  Fingers crossed there are not that many details out of place.

Other than that there is not much to update.  Next week I will have details about the dress fitting and hair & makeup and the Wednesday after that I will be too busy getting my hair cut and colored and picking people up from the airport (Hi Mom!) to blog about anything!  Wish me luck!!
